~The Andromeda Strain~(TV Mini series) PT 1

The Andromeda Strain Mini TV series didn't catch my eye when it first appeared on the A&E network in 2008. I actually came across this one when I was recommended it on my blockbuster account(Thank you!). Now this review is only for part 1 because that is all I have gotten in my blockbuster by mail account so far, and when it first aired on TV it was in 2 parts as well. The main cast consists of:
  • Benjamin Bratt (Law and Order, Miss Congeniality)
  • Eric McCormack (Will and Grace)
  • Christa Miller (Drew Carey Show, Scrubs)
  • Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Crash)
  • Viola Davis (Knight and Day, Doubt)
  • and Louis Ferriera (Dawn of the Dead, Shooter)
The whole idea of this movie is that a supposed "alien vessel" crash lands on earth and a couple of horny teens who witness the crash take it home with them and release a deadly virus that kills EVERYONE in the town. Stupid Kids, don't you know you shouldn't touch things that don't belong to you! Especially when they fall from the sky..does anything ever good fall from the sky? Anyways, turns out, and just so you know this isn't a spoiler, that the supposed Alien vessel is from the USA!!!  It's actually a US military satellite that was sent up into space to figure out what the hell a worm hole does that they found in outer space. Curiosity killed the Piedmont, UTAH retards! There are 2 survivors however, and of course they may be the key to finding out what the hell  feeds this disease and how to stop it. I won't give anymore away though because you just have to watch it yourself. I will tell you that of course like any other sci-fi movie with an unstoppable disease, they enlisted the help of scientists, trapped them in a hole way too deep underground that words can't explain, and quarantined them from the rest of the world until they find a cure.Who knows if they will even all survive at the end b/c I haven't seen the ending. The first part of the movie leaves off of course on a cliff hanger, but it leaves me ready to watch part 2, in about 2 weeks when blockbuster decides to send the 2nd half(ugh).
Now, my feelings on the first part overall is that they did chose a great cast because for the most part they are a lot of familiar b-actors faces, especially Eric McCormack. The script however, is lacking the punch that it needs when you want to create a 4 hour long movie ( 3 hours without commercials) and make it entertaining for all those 4 hours. Then again, so little directors and writers can actually capture my attention for that long or anyone else for that matter. But still, I feel that the most exciting scenes of the 1st part of the movie were in the beginning when everyone died and at the end of part 1 which was the cliff hanger. The rest of the movie was more of a transition period from their homes to the lab and trying to figure out what the disease is. There were really no major developments until the end. Its worth a watch though if you have time, like having a plot with a disease in it that causes sudden death, or are interested in science. Who knows whats in store for us in the second part though?!?!  ....I'll keep you updated.
